Why is it so hard to choose?

The Netflix Design Challenge:

Design a discovery experience on the Netflix app (mobile or tablet) that attempts

to solve the decision paralysis problem in choosing a movie.

The Problem:

Netflix users have difficulty finding things to watch. But why is that?

Discovery & RECOMMENDATIONS:

  1. Giving users the option to select movies or shows based on their “mood journey” similar to Spotify’s approach.

  2. Linking trusted review ratings (IMDB or Rotten Tomatoes) & live tags stemming from Director or Cast members.

MY Process:

  • Gathered information through user interviews and researched Netflix client feedback data from articles and past reviews

  • Set goals based on collected data on users frustrations and their burning desires

  • Mapped out and analyzed user’s thinking and feelings while using Netflix

Build user stories, while using multiple user experiences and personas

  • Studied Netflix competitors and what they do well to solve the indecision problem

  • Brainstormed recommendations and  possible solutions based on analyzing collected data

  • Narrowed down recommendations to Three ultimate solutions to improve Netflix Interface
